— Africa's Greatest Wildlife Spectacle — Lions, Cheetahs & the Big Five
There are game reserves, and then there is the Maasai Mara — a category entirely its own. This 450,000-acre stretch of golden savanna consistently ranks as the number one wildlife destination on the African continent. The Mara supports more lions, cheetahs and leopards per square kilometre than almost anywhere else on Earth, and the open rolling grasslands make them extraordinarily visible. This 3-day classic is designed to maximise your time in the most wildlife-rich sectors of the reserve, timing your game drives around the golden hours of early morning and late afternoon when predators are most active and the light is at its finest. You will stay in the heart of the ecosystem, close enough to the Mara River to hear hippos at night. Beyond the wildlife, the Maasai Mara is the ancestral homeland of the Maasai people. An optional evening visit to a traditional manyatta adds a rich cultural dimension to an already incomparable safari experience.
Depart Nairobi at 07:00 AM, driving southwest through the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Stop at a viewpoint over the valley floor before descending into the Maasai heartland. Arrive at camp for a bush lunch. An afternoon game drive through the Mara Triangle or Sekenani area positions you for a classic first-evening Big Cat encounter.
Rise before dawn for the 06:00 AM golden-hour game drive. Big cats are returning from night hunts, cheetahs survey the plains from termite mounds, and the light is extraordinary. Midday bush picnic beside the Mara River. Afternoon drive focusing on the riverine forests for leopard and the open Serengeti-like plains for cheetah.
One last game drive at first light — often the most memorable of the trip. A leisurely breakfast at camp before the mid-morning drive back through the Rift Valley to Nairobi, arriving by 4:00–5:00 PM.
